The newly renovated Admiral’s Inn is bringing a modern and trendy vibe to the colorful and vibrant beach town of Tybee Island, GA! The location is right off the “strip” that has the island’s most popular restaurants, bars, and shops from the main highway, US-80. Once under different management under the same name, Admiral’s Inn on Tybee Island has gone through a complete transformation while remaining at an affordable cost to guests. It now has a new life and a new story to tell!

Their Story
One night two staff members of the Admiral’s Inn discovered 6 baby turtles while cleaning one of the rooms at the hotel. The little ones happened to be endangered Loggerhead sea turtles!🐢 The story gained traction it even made National News, and eventually the sea turtles were released back into the ocean. All except one! Today the remaining turtle can be found at the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. After a town-wide vote the baby sea turtle was named Admiral, after the Admiral’s Inn! In 2 years, Admiral will be released into the Atlantic Ocean, but until then she’ll be kept for research and can be visited at this non-profit science center!
Lobby
As soon as we walked into the lobby, it had a modern contemporary feel. The lobby is brand new and opened just a few days before we checked in, and theres talk that they’ll be adding even more additions! At night time you’ll find blue LED lights lined in the front of the building and in the lobby, bringing a chic South Beach vibe to Tybee Island. With only two levels, the check-in process was very quick and the staff is super friendly (like 99.9% of the people of Tybee). One thing we did notice was there is no elevators for guests, so it may not be super accessible for people that need assistance.

Room
We stayed on the 2nd floor. Our room had two queen beds and a sofa chair. The style of the room was a very updated contemporary look, following the theme from the lobby. The floors are a hardwood flooring with a beachy gray wash. There’s not a lot of beach elements that you may expect at a hotel near the water, but instead a very modern simplistic look. The style of the room is definitely what you’d find in a newer modern hotel!
As soon as we walked into the room, we were greeted by the cutest little towel turtle on the bed!🐢 Such a cute touch! The beds themselves are clean and white, and have thinner sheets (because of the humidity in the South). The mattresses are on the firmer side, but we thought they were super comfortable and didn’t give us any issues! Also right when you walk in, there is a full length mirror which is always a plus with us!👍🏼
We love the mixed tones of the wood in their furniture. The design is so nice for a budget hotel! The bedside table has a drawer for storage (if you take a look inside they have a bible and the yellow pages), a remote for the tv, and an alarm clock. The best part is that they have plenty of outlets with USB ports!🔌🔋
Besides the TV theres additional storage for your belongings, a mini fridge (that’s larger than most mini fridges we’ve seen in hotels), and a microwave. That’s something we don’t see very often anymore. Great for guests that are staying for an extended amount of time!
And just in case you need them, the rooms have additional blankets inside of the closet which is next to the front door. The closet also includes a safe, an iron & ironing board, and wooden hangers to keep clothes wrinkle-free.
Each room comes with a cute Savannah book that you can look through to find things to do around Tybee and Savannah!
Next to the dresser is a table all set up where you can enjoy your morning coffee in the room!☕️ And like we mentioned earlier, each queen room comes with the comfiest chair! King rooms get a sofa couch instead!👍🏼
The bathroom was probably our favorite part of the room. During the week we were staying at the Admiral’s Inn, the showers were half glass, half shower curtain as they are completing their renovation. For the most part, the bathrooms have a lot of space with additional shelving and storage. Our other favorite part has to be the LED lights behind the mirror of the vanity that really brings a higher-end feel!🤩
Each bathroom comes with the usual soap, shampoo, body lotion, but they also add makeup wipes that smell like cucumber which is awesome for us girls! The shower is really impressive. It has multiple shower heads, one of them is the big rain shower head which is super relaxing and makes you feel as if you were staying at a luxury hotel!😍💦 They also have a pulldown shower head that is great if anyone needs it for accessibility (guests that may that may be handicapped). We love the floor to ceiling pebble tile, and the niche in the wall to set your toiletries. Minimal yet elegant!✨

Amenities
For an affordable hotel, Admiral’s Inn comes with a few amenities!
Pool Area
On a day when you don’t feel like visiting the beach you can relax by the pool! Surrounded by beautiful palm trees, the pool is a small yet cool hangout spot. Besides the actual pool another great spot to lounge is on their partially covered gazebo! There are plenty of cushioned teal chairs to sit in, and they have cute string lights that light up at night! Unfortunately the weather was a bit chilly while we were there so we didn’t get to enjoy this amenity. We could see this as a fun spot when it warms up outside! ☀️
Continental Breakfast
From 7am to 10am, the Admiral’s Inn offers their continental breakfast. We weren’t able to make it on time before all the food goes out but from what was left, we saw they have pastries, bagels, and an assortment of cereals.🍞🥐 You can also grab cold milk, apple juice, orange juice, and of course coffee! It’s a pretty light breakfast, but they do have thoughts of adding more in the future!
Other Amenities include:
- Complimentary Wi-Fi with your stay! (It’s super fast!)
- Free Parking for all hotel guests during the length of your stay. (This is especially nice because we’ve stayed at resorts that charge you for parking every day and it adds up quick!)
- On-site Laundry Services
Nearby Attractions
Admiral’s Inn is very close to a lot of popular nearby attractions! As soon as you walk out of the hotel you can easily walk to wherever you want to go! Tybee Island is only 3 miles long so the best way to really see the island is by grabbing a golf cart or a bike!
Tybee Island Beach
As soon as you walk out of the lobby, it’s only a short 3-min walk to the beach, less than a block away! This is super convenient for anyone that wants to spend the day in the water or go for walk to see the sunrise with a good cup of morning coffee!😍🌅
Tybee Island Lighthouse
📍 Address: 30 Meddin Dr, Tybee Island, GA 31328
This historic and active lighthouse is a landmark of the town! It’s breathtaking and you can even spot it as you enter the island from the highway. Walking up to the top of the lighthouse is a popular attraction in Tybee, and is one of the first things we did on our first visit to the island! We think it’s cool to check it out at night too!
Read more about the Tybee Lighthouse in our blog post here!
Tybee Pier and Pavilion
📍Directions: At end of Tybrisa Street
A regular spot in Nicholas Sparks’ The Last Song, the Tybee Pier & Pavilion is a favorite spot for tourists and locals to come spend the day! Across the street from Admiral’s Inn and just before the pier on Tybrisa Street, you’ll find some bars, restaurants, and gift shops lining the street. So take a walk on the pier (maybe with an ice cold alcoholic slushy from Wet Willie’s in hand) and listen to the waves crash. At night, you’ll find some fishermen at the end of pier night fishing.🎣
Tybee Island Marine Science Center
💲Entrance fee is $5 (to help fund the education and conservation efforts on the Georgia Coast)
📍Address: 1509 Strand Ave, Tybee Island, GA 31328
⏰ Hours: 10am-5pm everyday
This non-profit marine science center is located on the beach and is perfect for those that want the full coastal experience. Not only is it an exhibit to look at cool marine life but it’s also an education center! The center will soon be moved into a larger, new and improved facility to gain more room for friendly creatures, all for the benefit of research.
This is where you can meet Admiral, the Loggerhead sea turtle!🐢😍 We learned so much about her! Apparently, you can’t tell if a sea turtle is male or female until they turn 15 years old but since the biologist says she, we’ll roll with it! lol When they found her and her siblings, she was the size of a peach pit. She’ll be at the Tybee Marine Science Center for about 2 years before being released back into the ocean, so we will have to see how big she gets the next time we visit!
Fort Pulaski National Monument
💲 Entrance fee is $7
📞 Phone: (912) 786-5787
⏰ Hours: Open daily from 9am – 5pm (Sundays until 8:30pm)|
🖥 Website: https://www.nps.gov/fopu/index.htm
This National Monument is located on Cockspur island on the mouth of the Savannah River, right in between Savannah and Tybee Island. Built before the Civil War began, it took 18 years to build and is in the shape of an irregular pentagon. An estimated 25 million bricks were used to build this fort, with walls 11 feet thick! The fort is surrounded by water and has a moat with drawbridges! How cool is that?! There are tales of Fort Pulaski being one of the most haunted National Monuments in the country. Guests come from all over to listen to a story about the spirits of military soldiers that were imprisoned here in the hopes of experiencing the paranormal!

And Tybee Island is just a short drive from gorgeous downtown Savannah! Check out our Savannah Girls’ Guide here! And for more recommendations and things to do in Tybee check out our post here!
