When you’re here you won’t worry about time, you’ll just find yourself lost in the magical ambiance. Get ready to turn the reality switch off as you read more about this tribal paradise.

Azulik Resort

📍Carretera Tulum-Boca Paila KM 5, Zona Hotelera, 77780 Tulum, Q.R., Mexico
🖥 https://www.azulik.com/
📞 +52 984 980 0640
💲Prices: We’ve seen it range from $400 all the way to $850 USD/night and the most premium villas (like the Moon Villa) can go up to $5,246 USD/night

During our trip to Tulum we decided to go to Kin Toh, one of their charming restaurants overlooking the jungle, to catch the sunset. We decided to get their early before they open their doors at 5:30pm. And we weren’t the only ones with the same idea as people were lined up outside waiting to go in!

Good to know: There is a $50 (USD) minimum spend at Azulik if you’re not a resort guest. The evening we went it was a political Election day so we were informed that we needed to grab food in addition to alcohol. We already had reservations to have dinner at Kin Toh but not for a few hours and we weren’t very hungry yet, so of course that would happen to us lol.

Throughout Azulik there isn’t any electricity, just candlelights all around the hotel and restaurants. It was kind of scary and dangerous (but super cool at the same time) walking around Azulik. All of the walkways and restaurants are high above the ground with netting and so many steps on the staircase, it could be very easy to misstep or lose your balance, especially in heels! Kristina had to have the host help her up to dinner lol.

Azulik has the ultimate jungle vibes full of netting, jungle pathways, and rickety bridges that lead to the most beautiful views we’ve ever seen! This resort truly isn’t like any other in the world!

Enjoy a unique dining experience in one of Kin Toh’s private nests! You can reserve these nests in the sky starting at $1,000 usd. 😱 If that’s not really within your budget, they do offer a champagne sunset where you can mingle in the nest with other people and enjoy the gorgeous sunset over the Mayan jungle!🥂🌅🌴🍃 The champagne sunset is a good way to see the nests without spending the $. Next time we’re in Tulum we’re totally coming for that!

We were able to walk up and take a look, and the views from the nests were indescribable!! From there you could see the jungle out to the Caribbean sea, and even some other nests in the distance. #surreal 😍

We could also see their oceanfront villas, which is where you’ll stay if you book a room here.

Villas

Azulik has 48 wooden-crafted villas. There’s no electricity, TV, A/C, or Wifi (only in the lobby). Nature is their main amenity! Which is great for guests looking to disconnect from their phones and reconnect with the environment. You should also know, if looking to stay at Azulik, there are no showers only bathtubs to bathe in. The hotel claims that showers are for people that are in a rush. Everything is lit by candlelight and is extremely luxurious with lush canopys and mosaic tubs to relax in. The villas would be an amazing destination for couples looking for a romantic getaway, or a honeymoon.

Also good to know, even for the price, the resort is not all-inclusive for guests. But they do have a few amenities like the beach (which is a nude beach 😯), kayaks to use, and yoga on the beach every morning.🧘🏼‍♀️

Maya Spa

They also have a spa! The Spa uses Mayan techniques and traditions to pamper their guests with massages and facials that represent the 5 elements; water, fire, sky, air, and earth.🧖🏼‍♀️ Their ancient Mayan wellness rituals are what makes this spa truly unique. This ranges from energy cleansing, harmonizing the chakra, to transforming any physical or mental imbalances. And for any guests looking for more mental clarification, they can head over to the Dome to practice yoga and meditation.

Restaurants at Azulik

Azulik Resort has 3 unique restaurants on-site. Kin Toh’s Mayan avant- garde cuisine; Tseen Ja’s sushi; and Cenote’s traditional Mexican cuisine. Each restaurant mixes Mayan traditions into contemporary dishes.

Kin Toh

Hours: 5:30pm – 11pm Daily

After enjoying the sunset, we headed back to our hotel to freshen up and come back for our reservation at 8:30pm at Kin Toh. Kin Toh is the star restaurant of Azulik! This treehouse restaurant was built 39ft above Tulum’s Mayan jungle giving you some of the best views you’ll ever see. They serve Mayan-Mexican avant-garde (new and unusual or experimental ideas) cuisine. Each dish involves all 5 senses, mixing methods and local ingredients from their native cuisine with international elements. Which is maybe why they had some odd things on their menu, like the basil ice cream. Delicious but very different!

Our table was right by an open window that looked out into the starry night sky.🌌 Just like the rest of the hotel, there is no electricity but there are spotlights above each seat, which came to be super helpful! Something neat that Kin Toh does is they offer complimentary appetizers! We got a bread basket with butter, but it wasn’t your ordinary bread basket. They looked like mini doughnuts and were different colors and shapes. We also got a tuna tartare to try. And we ordered the Lionfish Reef ceviche as well. For drinks, we started with the Melipona and Ixchel cocktails!

For dinner we got the Catch of the Day, Sea Bass served with a pumpkin sauce, Yucatan pumpkin shavings and oregano oil, and the Veal Cheek, which was braised for twelve hours. It came with a tamarind glaze sautéed chaya (Mexican spinach), and a sweet potato purée! Both of our meals were so delicious! Honestly one of the best meals we’ve ever enjoyed!

Kin Toh also has the option to order off their Tasting Menu. They have both a four course and eight course menu with wine pairing. Which, from what we take, is the Chef surprises you with either 2 or 4 appetizers (depending on which course you order), your main course, and desserts! Check out the rest of their menu here.

And for dessert we had their almond pudding with basil sorbet to share but then they surprised us with a birthday dessert too! #wheninmexico 🤪

Tseen Ja

Hours: 5pm – 11pm Daily

After dinner we were given a private tour of Azulik and got to check out the other restaurants. We crossed the rickety bridge (it was so scary but cool walking across it) to Tseen Ja, their charming sushi restaurant serving traditional Japanese technique with ancient Mayan and Mexican products.

And just when we thought the nests in the sky were the best things ever, we discovered Tseen Ja’s nest on water! “With nests that rest on water mirrors, we evoke the Zen aesthetic that leads us” – Tseen Ja 💧✨

Cenote

Hours: 7:30am – 10:30pm Daily

You’ll have a hard time deciding what to try at this farm to table restaurant. Serving traditional Mexican cuisine with a fresh concept and local ingredients, Cenote is open at 7:30am for breakfast and closes at 10:30pm.

Wine Cave

We even got to check out their wine cave which is located in Kin Toh. It has a tasting area for guests with 600 bottles and 185 different labels. We’ve never seen a wine cellar like it!

Ik Lab

Hours: 10am – 10pm Daily

Another cool thing that we didn’t know about before we went is their stunning art gallery, Ik Lab! The entrance is through a huge circular glass door that swings open, and before entering you have to take shoes off and set all your bags down. But they do allow photography! 📸🙌🏼

The concept has an open feel so you see everything from every angle. The exhibit is two stories and you can climb up to the top and see the gallery from above. It was so peaceful just walking around in this real-life treehouse! And since our shoes are off, you experience things with your feet as you touch the curves and slopes of the vines to the cold cement. Ik Lab truly allowed us to appreciate the connection of art and nature.😍🌿🕊

The lines are blurred as art and nature combine at Azulik. Their tribal concept honors the Mayan history of Mexico along with the natural elements making you truly feel as if you’re in a whole new world. This might be one of our favorite places in Tulum! Definitely visit Azulik even if you can’t stay in a villa or do dinner, just go for a drink and enjoy the sunset overlooking the Mayan jungle and experience the magical ambiance! It just might be the prettiest sight you’ll ever see. 😉

    1. Hi! You can go without a reservation at Kin Toh but there is a minimum spend to go in. Or you can do their Sunset Experience at Azulik which costs about $50/person. It includes drinks and little bites with a Dj spinning up in their nests overlooking the jungle! Hope this helps!

    1. Hi! It was a while ago so I don’t remember exactly, but I’d say around $150-$200 usd. Hope this helps!
