A Girl’s Night at The Hotel at Avalon

Posted on

Atlanta is a booming city growing in population year after year, after year! Even the neighborhoods outside of the city are seeing growth! Us Atlantans call it OTP (or out of the perimeter), and one town in particular that we love visiting is Alpharetta, GA! Which is becoming a must visit for tourists visiting the ATL because of its shopping district, Avalon.

Avalon’s walkable community is home to major retailers like Starbucks, Urban Outfitters, Lululemon, The Drybar, and even local favs like Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and South City Kitchen Avalon!

We decided the best way to experience Avalon is make it a staycation by booking a night at The Hotel at Avalon, Autograph Collection!

BOOK HERE

There are a few options for parking, if you’re staying overnight we recommend using their valet service, especially if you’re a heavy packer!
Cost: $15 USD daily

Next to the hotel’s convention center is an overnight parking garage.
But if you’re only staying for the day there’s plenty of free parking close by!
Cost: $10 USD daily

Lobby

At first glance The Hotel at Avalon is absolutely stunning, we didn’t even know what to first look at the moment we stepped in!😍 The lobby is inviting and bright with contemporary elements and a touch of sophisticated southern influence. We love all the details from the elegant bookcase surrounding the fireplace, the geometric wall art of a horse coming out of the garden wall, and especially the string of magnolia flowers framing the area. It’s seriously so dreamy!

The lobby is a great space to gather and enjoy a glass of wine before heading out to explore the rest of Avalon. On the right side of the front door is the large lobby bar that is also apart of South City Kitchen Avalon, an upscale restaurant serving up a modern take on southern classics.

The front check in desk is towards the back by the elevators. The staff displays southern hospitality at its finest by being so accommodating and friendly! They even offer sweet tea in little mason jars and Ooey Gooey pecan cookies for guests in the mood for something extra sweet!

As we made our way towards our room we noticed that the floral theming continues with art displays throughout, like in the elevators and hallways.

Room

We were so excited when The Hotel at Avalon invited us to stay at their gorgeous hotel for Galentine’s Day! Our room was their corner room with a gorgeous view of Avalon. It’s seriously one of the most spacious rooms we’ve ever stayed in, it took us no time to feel at home because of it’s cozy yet luxe decor!

And Galentine’s Day isn’t complete without a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries which were perfect for sipping on while we got ready in front of the huge bathroom vanity that’s lined with LED lights! Seriously, we love how big the bathroom is. This means we can get glam together!

And if you’re like us and would rather relax and get pampered head on over to the Drybar at Avalon for champagne and blowouts!🥂💁🏻‍♀️💁🏼‍♀️

And even when the restaurants in the area are shutting down for the night, the hotel offers room service to satisfy any late night cravings til 11pm or have your breakfast in the comfort of your bed starting at 7am!

There are plenty of perks and room amenities including a closet wardrobe, plenty of drawers for storage, furry white robes, satin padded hangers to reduce creasing, a steamer/iron, ironing board, and a safe in the drawer all behind the sliding full-length mirror.

Next to the wardrobe is a desk, which is perfect for us to get some extra work done! Also, on the desk, is the cordless phone and room service menu.

Can we take a second to appreciate the studded frame around the smart tv?! We can’t get over the stylish decor and furnishings all around the hotel! Everything from Georgia inspired artwork, to the leather chest, and the custom-built cabinet for the mini fridge with complimentary Keurig coffee.

Even the bathroom is chic! There is a gorgeous barn door that leads into the bathroom and the toilet is in a separate small room with bookcase wallpaper!📚 Along with a glass-doored shower with an intensely fragrant collection of bath products from the luxury brand, Molton Brown.

There’s plenty of seating including a beautiful lounge chair next to the floor-to-ceiling windows, making it the perfect place to plop down and read a good book! We loved waking up to these stunning views of Avalon and the treetops from afar!

Dining

While there are plenty of dining options in Avalon, there is only one on-site restaurant inside of The Hotel at Avalon called South City Kitchen Avalon, which is easy to access on the main level as it shares a bar with the front lobby!

South City Kitchen

📞 (678) 722-3602
🖥 https://www.thehotelatavalon.com/dining/south-city-kitchen/
Hours: Mon-Fri: Breakfast 6:30-10am , Lunch 11am-2:30pm, Dinner 5-10pm
Saturday & Sunday: 7am-3pm, 5-11pm (open til 10pm on Sundays)

South City Kitchen is an upscale spin on southern classics and has become a staple in Atlanta! Personally, we haven’t had a lot of southern style dishes so we were excited to try a new experience!

The restaurant’s atmosphere is a mix of rustic meets industrial chic. It’s very dark and sophisticated!

While we waited for our table to be ready, we had the bartender whip us up a specialty cocktail called the Azteca and his version of a spicy margarita! They were so good, we lost count on how many we ordered!

During dinner the bar got packed, even though it was a weekday! And if you have plans elsewhere around Avalon, they have a zero container law. Meaning you can walk around the shops with a cold one in hand!

Once seated, the server starts you off with a complimentary bread basket with fluffy corn bread and warm biscuits. They were so good, we had to get another basket!😋

For appetizers, we ordered the Baby Beets Salad and the Lump Crab Cake to share. The salad was pretty interesting and all the dishes are visually appealing with colorful ingredients and are beautifully plated! For our entrees we decided to try their Hanger Steak served with marble potatoes, onions, peppers, and a chimichurri glaze, along with the Pan Roasted Salmon with a butternut squash puree and red chard.

We loved the fresh and modern approach of these dishes all incorporating southern flavors and styles!

Pros

  • Upscale Contemporary look
  • On-site restaurants
  • Nearby attractions, shopping. and restaurants in Avalon

Cons

  • Since the restaurant and lobby are connected, the lobby did get pretty crowded and noisy

The Hotel at Avalon is truly the definition of ultimate southern comfort! Since we live in the city of Atlanta, it was nice to get out of the hustle and bustle and enjoy an evening at Avalon. Whether you’re visiting from out of town or seeking a staycation like us, The Hotel at Avalon should be your top choice. Who doesn’t love a walkable community filled with some of the best shopping, entertainment, and restaurants?! Also, it’s the only area in Atlanta that we know of that allows you walk around with an adult beverage. It’s truly a shopper’s paradise and even better for a girl’s night away from home!
